Pentrexil is an antibacterial drug that belongs to the penicillin group, where the main active ingredient is Ampicillin. The release form of the drug is a powder in vials, which is diluted immediately before injection. Also, the medicine is available in the form of a suspension and baby drops for internal use.

Pharmacological action of the drug

The tool has a bactericidal and antibacterial effect. Ampicillin belongs to the group of antibiotics with beta-lactam action, is used as a therapeutic agent for bacterial infections in the body, effectively acting against gram-positive organisms. The active substance also affects some aerobic and anaerobic gram-negative bacteria. The only exception is penicillin-forming staphylococci, the drug does not have a harmful effect on them. Pentrexil acts on the cell walls of bacteria, binds protein, stimulating the hydrolysis process.

Indications for use

The tool is used to treat infections of the respiratory organs and urinary tract, organs of the gastrointestinal tract, skin, ENT pathology, as well as in the presence of surgical infection, meningitis and endocarditis. When prescribing the drug, the attending physician is guided by the general condition of the patient, the stage of the course of the disease, age and the presence of contraindications.

High sensitivity to the drug, infectious mononucleosis, treatment with other antibacterial drugs.

Side effects

Gastrointestinal tract disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, allergic reactions (pruritus, skin rash in the form of urticaria), in rare cases, anaphylactic shock. Before taking the drug, it is advisable to make a test for the sensitivity of the body and individual tolerance of the active components. In case of any abnormalities, Pentrexyl is discontinued, and rehabilitation therapy with antihistamines is performed.

Interaction

The effect of the drug on a bacterial infection is reduced while taking it with any bacteriostatic antibiotic, especially related to the tetracycline series. Taking the drug significantly reduces the effectiveness of contraceptives (oral contraceptives). When used simultaneously with allopurinol, it will cause skin rashes.

Dosage and Administration

In suspension, the drug is taken orally 4 times during the day at 250 mg (with a patient weighing over 40 kg). For children weighing up to 40 kg, the daily dose should not exceed 25 mg per 1 kg of the mass, divided into equal doses, taken every 4 hours. In severe cases of the course of the disease, the dose of the drug can double. Intramuscularly, the drug is administered to adult patients at 250-500 mg, at intervals of 6-8 hours. In severe forms of an infectious disease, a dose increase of up to 1-2 grams is allowed, 3-4 times a day. For children from infancy to 13 years of age, treatment with an injection drug is 25-50 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day. The severe form of the disease allows you to increase the dosage to an indicator of 150-200 mg / kg, introducing the drug in equal parts every 6-8 hours.

Storage principles

The prepared suspension is stored at room temperature for no more than 7 days from the moment of its preparation (the powder is mixed with water). In refrigerators, the shelf life is 14 days. The powder used for the preparation of the suspension has a shelf life of 2 years, and a similar preparation intended for injection solutions - 4 years. Do not use the drug after its expiration date (indicated on the package).
