Pharmacotherapeutic group of this medicine:

Topical antifungals. Imidazole derivatives. Topical ketoconazole is a nonsteroidal compound.

Cream for external use 2% white, homogeneous.

Active ingredient	per 1 g
Ketoconazole	20 mg

Excipients: propylene glycol - 200 mg (equivalent 193 μl), stearyl alcohol - 75 mg, cetyl alcohol - 20 mg, sorbitan stearate - 20 mg, polysorbate 60 (Tween 60) - 15 mg, isopropyl myristate - 10 mg, anhydrous sodium sulfite - 2 mg, polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) - 1 mg, purified water - up to 1 g (637 μl).

Instructions for use

Only for external use.

Topical Nizoral (brand name) ointment is for use in adults to treat fungal infections of the epidermis, scalp and nails:

- Dermatomycosis of smooth skin

- Inguinal epidermophytosis

- Folliculitis caused by fungi of the Malassezia genus;

- Epidermophytosis of the hands and feet

- candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes (including the mouth and throat)

- Chronic recurrent vaginal candidiasis

- Pityriasis versicolor

- Seborrheic dermatitis caused by Pityrosporum yeast

- Tinea Cruris

- Tinea Pedis

- Tinea Manus

- Ringworm.

For dandruff and dry scalp, it is recommended to use ketoconazole cream 40g in the form of a shampoo.

Who is contraindicated to use this medication?

The drug is not prescribed to patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the cream "Nizoral". It is forbidden for children under 12 years of age, for children older, check with specialists (medical advice).

It is also contraindicated in other forms of releases of this medication:

- Acute and chronic skin diseases.

- Lactose deficiency.

- Lactose intolerance.

- Simultaneous reception with some substrates of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme. Safe when interacting with other medications.

How to use it for pregnant and nursing women

Overdose

Local epidermis manifestations of an allergic nature, such as contact dermatitis, are rarely caused by the active component of the cream - ketoconazole or one of the auxiliary components - sodium sulfite or propylene glycol.

The side effects seen in post marketing studies with Nizoral Cream 2% are listed below.

Immune system disorders: very rare - hypersensitivity, hives.

Hapenia of the skin and subcutaneous tissue: very rarely - rash, itching, erythema.

Antifungal, works against dermatophytes, yeasts, dimorphic fungi and eumycetes. It is also effective against staph and streptococci.

The mechanism of action of NIZORAL is to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal membrane and to change the permeability of the cell wall.

Dosage and application drug information

Consult a doctor before use.

Usually, the duration of treatment with the drug lasts at least 14 days. It is recommended to apply the drug to dry and affected skin and in the surrounding area.

In diseases such as candidiasis of the skin, dermatomycosis of the smooth skin, epidermophytosis of the groin, hands and feet, pityriasis versicolor: it is recommended to spread the damage caused by the drug once a day on the affected area and the immediately adjacent epidermis.

Seborrheic dermatitis: Depending on the severity of the lesion, it is recommended to apply topical ketoconazole cream ointment to the affected epidermis once or twice a day (consult a specialist). The usual duration of treatment with this medication for seborrheic dermatitis is two to four weeks. For maintenance therapy, the cream is applied once or twice a week after the disappearance of all symptoms of the disease.

IMPORTANT: The diagnosis should be checked if there is no clinical improvement after 4 weeks of treatment (only a doctor can do this). General hygiene regulations must be observed to control the sources of infection and reinfection.

The usual duration of treatment for certain diseases is as follows: foot epidermophytosis 4-6 weeks, for fungal and yeast infections 2 to 3 weeks, inguinal epidermophytosis 2-4 weeks, pityriasis versicolor 14-21 days, dermatomycosis smooth skin up to by 4 weeks.
